Severe or lasting tooth pain, a knocked-out or broken tooth, swelling or signs of infection, bleeding that won't stop, a lost filling or crown that hurts, and jaw pain that keeps you from opening your mouth. Call Metropolitan Smile Design at (954) 322-3865. For trouble breathing, swelling that is spreading or a serious facial injury, go to the ER or call 911.

Acting fast can be the difference between saving a tooth and losing it. Call us first, even if you're not sure it's an emergency, and we'll help you decide.
If a tooth was knocked out, pick it up by the crown rather than the root, keep it in a small container of milk and bring it with you. The sooner you get here, the better the chance of saving it.
Until you can get here
Tell us your symptoms. We fit emergencies in as quickly as the day allows, often the same day.
We find the cause of the pain or damage and check the teeth around it.
We treat the pain, infection or bleeding before anything else.
We explain what the tooth needs next, such as a filling, crown, root canal or extraction, and what it costs.
These are the problems patients call us about most often.
Often a deep cavity or an inflamed nerve. Pain that wakes you up or won't let up needs to be seen.
A pocket of infection can spread. Swelling in the gums, face or jaw should be looked at the same day.
Save the pieces if you can. Many chips can be bonded, and bigger breaks may need a crown.
Keep the tooth in milk and come in right away. The first hour matters most for saving it.
Keep the crown and avoid chewing on that side. It can often be recemented or replaced.
Pain and swelling behind the last molar. We treat the infection and talk through removal.
Many dental insurance plans cover emergency treatment. The cost depends on what the tooth needs, and we explain it before we go beyond relieving your pain.
If you don't have insurance, monthly financing can spread the cost of larger repairs such as crowns and root canals.
Many emergencies start as small problems, like a cavity or a cracked filling, that a routine visit would have caught.
Use one for contact sports and, if you grind, at night. It absorbs the force that cracks and breaks teeth.
Pain means something is wrong. A tooth that stops hurting can still be infected, so have it checked.
Often, yes. Call (954) 322-3865 as early as you can and we'll fit you in as soon as the schedule allows.
Go to the emergency room or call 911 for trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling that is spreading into the face or neck, bleeding that won't stop, or a serious facial injury.
Pick it up by the crown, not the root, don't scrub it, keep it in milk and come in right away. The sooner it's treated, the better the chance of saving it.
A small chip without pain can usually wait for the next available appointment. A large break, sharp pain or a chip that exposes the inside of the tooth should be seen quickly.
