Same-Day Crowns in Tamarac, FL

Designed, made and fitted in one visit.

A same-day crown repairs a cracked, weak or heavily filled tooth in a single appointment. We scan the tooth, design the crown on screen and mill it from ceramic in our office, so there's no temporary crown and no second visit.

Quick answer

How do same-day crowns work?

The tooth is prepared and scanned digitally, the crown is designed on a computer and milled from a ceramic block in the office, then it is bonded in place, all in one appointment. At Metropolitan Smile Design in Tamarac, an exam tells us whether your tooth is a good candidate.

What it is

One appointment instead of two

A traditional crown takes at least two visits: one to prepare the tooth and take impressions, and a second, weeks later, to place the crown a lab has made. In between you wear a temporary crown that can come loose or feel sensitive.

With a same-day crown, a digital scan replaces the impression trays and the crown is milled in our office while you wait. You leave with the permanent crown, matched to the color, shape and size of your natural teeth.

Same-day crowns suit teeth that are

  • Cracked or broken
  • Badly worn down
  • Weakened by a large cavity or an old filling
  • Treated with a root canal and in need of protection
  • Under an old crown that no longer fits well
What to expect

What happens at your appointment

  1. Exam

We check the tooth, the gums and your bite to confirm a same-day crown is the right choice.

  2. Preparing the tooth

Under local anesthesia, damaged tooth structure is removed and the tooth is shaped.

  3. Digital scan

A small scanner records the tooth and your bite, with no impression trays.

  4. Design and milling

The crown is designed on screen and milled from a ceramic block in our office.

  5. Fitting

We check the fit, shade and bite, then bond the crown in place before you go home.

Compare

One visit or two: how the crowns compare

Both protect the tooth. The difference is how they are made and how many visits they take.

One visit

Same-day crown

Scanned, designed and milled in our office. No temporary crown and no second appointment.

Two visits

Lab-made crown

Made by a dental lab from an impression. For some materials and complex cases it is the better choice.

When one visit isn't enough

Eligibility depends on the health of the tooth, the gums and your bite. The exam tells us which option fits your case.

Cost and payment

Cost and how to pay

The price depends on the tooth and whether it needs a buildup or a root canal first. You get the full cost after the exam, before any work begins.

Because a crown repairs damage, many dental plans cover part of it. We verify your benefits first, and monthly financing can cover the rest.

Ways to pay

  • Dental insuranceMost major plans accepted, including PPO. We verify your coverage first.
  • Monthly financingCareCredit, Sunbit, Cherry or Alphaeon.
  • New patientsStart with the $65 visit: exam, digital X-rays and a basic cleaning.
After your visit

Caring for a same-day crown

Right after

Wait until the numbness wears off before you eat, and go easy on hard foods on the treated side for the first 24 hours. Mild sensitivity or gum tenderness for a few days is normal.

Every day

Brush and floss around the crown like any other tooth, paying attention to the gum line.

Over the years

Avoid chewing ice and hard objects, wear a night guard if you grind, and keep your checkups.

Questions patients ask

Questions about crowns in one visit

Are same-day crowns as strong as lab-made crowns?

Same-day crowns are milled from strong ceramic blocks and fitted from a precise digital scan, and they restore normal chewing. For some cases a lab-made crown in a different material is the better choice, and we'll tell you if that applies to your tooth.

How long does the appointment take?

Longer than a single visit for a traditional crown, usually a few hours, because scanning, design and milling happen while you wait. In exchange, you only come in once.

Does getting a same-day crown hurt?

The tooth is numbed before it's prepared, so the procedure itself shouldn't hurt. Some sensitivity or tenderness for a few days afterward is normal.

How long do same-day crowns last?

With good care, same-day ceramic crowns often last 10 to 15 years or longer. Grinding, chewing hard objects and skipping checkups shorten their life.

Is my tooth a candidate?

Many cracked, worn or heavily filled teeth are. Eligibility depends on the health of the tooth, your gums and your bite, so an exam is the only way to know.

Can you explain the treatment in Spanish?

Yes. Our team speaks English and Spanish and can walk you through every step in either language.

Do same-day crowns look natural?

Yes. The ceramic blocks mimic the translucency of natural enamel, and we match the shade to the teeth around the crown.
