An implant is a small titanium post that takes the place of a missing tooth's root, topped with a crown shaded to match your other teeth. The consultation is free, and you get the full plan and price before anything starts.

A dental implant is a titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Once it bonds with the bone, usually over 3 to 6 months, it holds a crown, a bridge or a denture. At Metropolitan Smile Design in Tamarac the implant consultation is free.

Three parts do the work. The implant post sits in the jawbone and acts as the root. An abutment connects the post to the crown, the part you see, which is shaped and shaded to match the teeth beside it.
The post bonds with the bone as it heals, a process called osseointegration. That is why an implant doesn't shift the way a loose denture can, and why the teeth next to the gap don't have to be filed down the way they would for a bridge.
You may be a good candidate if
We examine the gap, take X-rays and compare an implant with a bridge or a denture for your case.
You get the number of visits, the timeline and the full cost in writing before treatment starts.
The post goes in under local anesthesia. Expect some soreness and swelling for a few days.
Over the next 3 to 6 months the post bonds with the bone. In many cases a temporary tooth fills the gap.
We attach the abutment and your custom crown, check the bite, and set your cleaning schedule.
How many implants you need depends on how many teeth are missing and where they are.
One post and one crown fill one gap. The teeth on either side are left alone.
Two implants can carry a bridge of three or more teeth, so you don't need a post for every missing tooth.
A denture held in place by implants stays put when you eat and talk. Ask whether a removable or a fixed version suits you.
A traditional bridge or denture is quicker and costs less up front. We walk you through the tradeoffs at the consultation.
Compare bridges and implantsThe price depends on how many teeth you are replacing, whether you need bone grafting, and what goes on top: a crown, a bridge or a denture. That is why we don't quote a number before the consultation. It's free, and you leave with the full cost in writing.
Many dental plans cover part of the treatment, often the crown. We check your benefits before you commit, and monthly financing can cover the rest.
Stick to soft foods, use a cold compress for swelling and take the pain relief we recommend. Smoking slows healing, so avoid it.
Brush twice a day and floss around the implant as you would any tooth. A water flosser helps clean around the crown.
An implant can't get a cavity, but the gum around it can get infected. Regular cleanings keep the tissue and bone healthy.
The post is placed under local anesthesia, so you shouldn't feel pain during the procedure. Soreness and some swelling for a few days afterward are normal, and most patients manage with the pain relief we recommend.
With good home care and regular cleanings, the post itself can last for decades. The crown on top takes the daily wear and may need replacing after many years.
It depends on the number of implants, whether bone grafting is needed and the type of restoration. The consultation is free and you get the full price in writing. Insurance may cover part of it, and monthly financing is available.
Gum disease has to be treated first, because inflamed gums and weakened bone can't hold an implant securely. Once your gums are healthy, an implant is usually possible.
An implant replaces the tooth without filing down the teeth beside it, and it helps keep the jawbone from shrinking. A bridge is faster and costs less up front. The right choice depends on your teeth, your bone and your budget.
