Dental Crowns and Bridges in Tamarac, FL

Save a damaged tooth, or replace a missing one.

A crown covers a cracked, broken or heavily filled tooth so you can chew on it again. A bridge fills the gap where a tooth is missing. Both are shaped and shaded to match your smile, and eligible crowns can be made in a single visit.

Quick answer

When do you need a dental crown?

A crown is usually recommended when a tooth is cracked, badly worn, weakened by a large filling or a root canal, or too damaged for a filling to hold. It covers the whole visible tooth and restores its shape and strength. At Metropolitan Smile Design in Tamarac, eligible crowns can be made in one visit.

What it is

How crowns and bridges work

A crown is a tooth-shaped cap made of porcelain, ceramic or metal. The tooth is shaped so the crown fits over it, then the crown is bonded in place and takes the chewing load the tooth can't handle on its own.

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth. Crowns on the teeth either side of the gap hold a false tooth between them, so you can chew and smile without a space.

A crown or bridge may help if

  • A tooth is cracked, chipped or badly worn
  • A large old filling is breaking down
  • A tooth had a root canal and needs protection
  • A tooth is missing and you'd rather not have an implant
  • A tooth is discolored or misshapen and bonding won't hold
What to expect

Getting a crown, step by step

  1. Exam and X-rays

We check the tooth and its root and tell you whether a crown, a bridge or a simple filling is the right fix.

  2. Preparing the tooth

Under local anesthesia, decay is removed and the tooth is shaped so the crown fits over it.

  3. Scan or impression

We record the tooth with a digital scan or an impression and pick the shade that matches your teeth.

  4. Temporary crown

While a lab makes your crown, a temporary one protects the tooth. Eligible same-day crowns skip this step.

  5. Fitting

We check the fit, the shade and your bite, then bond the crown or bridge in place.

Dental bridge

A false tooth held by crowns on the neighboring teeth. Faster than an implant, but those teeth have to be shaped.

Cost and payment

What crowns and bridges cost

The price depends on the material, whether the tooth needs a root canal or a buildup first, and how many teeth a bridge spans. You get the full cost after the exam, before any work begins.

Because crowns and bridges repair damage, dental insurance often covers part of the cost. We verify your benefits first, and monthly financing can cover the rest.

Ways to pay

  • Dental insuranceMost major plans accepted, including PPO. We verify your coverage first.
  • Monthly financingCareCredit, Sunbit, Cherry or Alphaeon.
  • New patientsStart with the $65 visit: exam, digital X-rays and a basic cleaning.
After treatment

Making a crown or bridge last

Right after

If you were numbed, wait until the feeling comes back before you eat. Some sensitivity to cold for a few days is normal.

Every day

Brush twice a day and floss. Under a bridge, a floss threader or a water flosser reaches where regular floss can't.

Protecting it

Don't chew ice or open packages with your teeth, and ask about a night guard if you grind. Checkups catch problems at the edges early.

Questions patients ask

Crown and bridge questions

How long do dental crowns last?

With good care, crowns often last 10 to 15 years or longer. Grinding, chewing hard objects and skipping cleanings shorten their life.

Does getting a crown hurt?

The tooth is numbed before it's shaped, so the procedure itself shouldn't hurt. Mild soreness or sensitivity for a few days afterward is common.

How do you decide between a crown and a filling?

A filling repairs a small area. When decay or a crack affects a large part of the tooth, a filling can't hold, and a crown protects what's left. The exam and X-rays show which one you need.

Should I get a bridge or an implant?

A bridge is faster and usually costs less up front, but the teeth beside the gap are shaped to hold it. An implant replaces the tooth on its own. We explain both at your consultation.

Can I get a crown in one day?

Often, yes. If the tooth is suitable, we design and mill a ceramic crown in our office and place it during the same visit.

Will my insurance cover a crown?

Many plans cover part of the cost when a crown repairs damage or decay. We check your benefits before treatment so you know your share.
