Quick answer

Is Invisalign right for me, or do I need braces?

Invisalign clear aligners are custom trays you wear most of the day and take out to eat and brush. They work well for mild to moderate crowding, gaps and teeth that shifted after earlier braces. Marked bite problems and large root movements often go better with braces. At your consultation in Tamarac we examine your teeth and bite and tell you which one fits.

What it is

What Invisalign is and how clear aligners work

Invisalign is a clear aligner system. You receive a series of custom-made trays, and each set moves your teeth a small step toward the planned position. You wear a set for the time your plan says, then switch to the next one.

At Metropolitan Smile Design in Tamarac, the whole sequence is planned from a digital scan of your mouth before the first tray is made. Some teeth get small tooth-colored attachments that give the trays something to grip. They come off when treatment ends.

Why patients choose Invisalign

  • Clear aligners are hard to see, so you can smile in photos, meetings and class
  • You take them out to eat, brush and floss
  • No brackets or wires to catch, poke or break
  • Easier to keep clean than braces
  • Usually fewer adjustment visits than braces, though checkups still happen
What to expect

Invisalign step by step, and how long it takes

How long treatment takes depends on how far your teeth need to move. You get that estimate at your consultation, not before.

  1. Consultation

We check your teeth, gums and bite, take X-rays if needed, and ask what bothers you about your smile.

  2. Scan and plan

A digital scan maps your mouth. We plan the full sequence and tell you the expected result, how many sets and how long.

  3. First trays

You get your first set, any attachments the plan needs, and a lesson in putting the trays in and taking them out.

  4. Changes and checkups

You switch to the next set on schedule at home. We check your progress at regular visits and adjust if needed.

  5. Retainer

When your teeth reach their new position, a retainer keeps them from moving back.

Who it suits

Who Invisalign works for, and when braces are better

The right choice depends on your teeth, your bite and how steadily you can wear trays.

Often a good fit

Crowding, gaps and relapse

Crowded or gapped teeth, mild to moderate bite issues, and teeth that moved after earlier braces. Teens and adults both qualify when teeth and gums are healthy.

Often better with braces

Marked bite problems

A large mismatch between the upper and lower teeth, big root movements, severe rotations, or cases that need teeth removed usually go better with braces. Active gum disease is treated before any teeth are moved.

Alignment before cosmetic work

Straightening first gives whitening, bonding or veneers a better base. When a smile makeover is your goal, we plan the aligners as part of it.

Cost and payment

Invisalign cost in Tamarac, and how to pay

The cost depends on your case, how long treatment takes and how much your teeth need to move. After your exam we give you a personalized plan and the full cost before anything starts, so there are no surprises.

We accept most PPO plans and check whether yours includes orthodontic benefits. If you are paying yourself, monthly financing can spread the cost across your treatment.

Ways to pay

  • Dental insuranceWe accept most PPO plans and check for orthodontic benefits.
  • Monthly financingCareCredit, Sunbit, Cherry or Alphaeon, subject to approval.
  • New patientsThose without gum disease can start with the $65 visit: exam, digital X-rays and a basic cleaning.
During treatment

Living with Invisalign aligners

Wear time

Wear your trays 20 to 22 hours a day, including while you sleep. Time out of your mouth slows the plan and can lengthen treatment.

Eating and drinking

Take the trays out for anything but cold water. Brush, then put them back in right after you eat.

Cleaning and storage

Rinse with cold water, clean with a soft brush, and keep the trays in their case, never in a napkin. Hot water can warp them.

After treatment

Wear your retainer exactly as instructed. Without it, teeth drift back toward where they started.

Questions patients ask

Invisalign questions

How much does Invisalign cost in Tamarac?

It depends on your case, the length of treatment and how much your teeth need to move, so we quote it after an exam. You get a personalized plan and the full cost before you start. We accept most PPO plans, and CareCredit, Sunbit, Cherry and Alphaeon offer monthly payments, subject to approval.

How long does Invisalign take?

It depends on how much movement your teeth need. Some cases are shorter and others take longer. After your exam and digital scan, your plan shows how many sets of trays you will use and how long it should take. Wearing them as directed is one of the biggest factors in finishing on time.

What is the difference between Invisalign and braces?

Invisalign aligners are clear and removable, so you take them out to eat and clean your teeth. Braces are fixed to your teeth and work around the clock, which makes them more predictable for some movements. The best option depends on your bite, and we tell you which applies to you.

How many hours a day do I need to wear Invisalign?

Wear them 20 to 22 hours a day, including while you sleep. Take them out only to eat, brush and floss. A tray left in its case does not move your teeth. Your exact instructions come from your provider.

Can Invisalign be part of a smile makeover?

Yes. Invisalign is often used to line up your teeth before whitening, bonding or veneers, which gives those treatments a better foundation. We can plan the steps together as part of your smile design.

Does Invisalign hurt?

You may feel pressure for the first two days of each new set, and your teeth can feel tender when you bite. That pressure is the aligner working, and it usually fades on its own. If it is strong or does not ease, call us at (954) 322-3865.
