Dentist in Fort Lauderdale, FL
Looking for a dentist in Fort Lauderdale, FL? Metropolitan Smile Design is at 6510 N University Dr in Tamarac, in west Broward. That is a longer drive from Fort Lauderdale than from the cities next door to us, and we would rather say so up front. This page covers the routes, the real drive time and who the trip makes sense for.
Dental Services for Fort Lauderdale Patients
Everything below happens in one office. For a patient driving in from the other side of the county, that is the point: fewer places to go, and a plan that can be grouped into fewer trips.
- Full smile design with a digital preview before you commit
- Dental implants, single tooth through full-arch, including All-on-4
- Fillings, crowns and bridges, including same-day crowns milled in the office
- Cosmetic dentistry: porcelain veneers, bonding and teeth whitening
- Invisalign and braces for adults and teens
- General and preventive dentistry: exams, digital X-rays, cleanings and periodontal maintenance, with gum disease treatment when it is needed
- Same-day emergency care for pain, swelling, a broken tooth or a lost crown or filling
- Sedation options for patients with dental anxiety
You can see the full list on our services page.
Why Some Fort Lauderdale Patients Make the Drive
Fort Lauderdale has a lot of dentists, many of them minutes from where you live. If one of them has what you need, at a price you can live with, there is no reason to drive 12 miles to us.
The patients who do make the trip tend to have a specific reason: they work or travel along Commercial Boulevard or the Turnpike, they want a written plan and price to compare with another quote, or they are planning something larger, such as implants or a full smile design, where one office doing everything saves repeat trips.
- A $65 first visit for new patients with healthy gums: exam, digital X-rays and a basic cleaning, so one trip answers whether the drive is worth it
- Free implant and Smile Design consultations, the latter with a digital preview
- The cost in writing before treatment starts, for comparison with any other quote
- One office for everything, so a plan does not get split across practices
- English and Spanish spoken at the front desk and in the chair
Getting Here From Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is the farthest city on our list: roughly 10 to 14 miles by road, west across Broward County. Which way is fastest depends on where you start.
From downtown, Las Olas, Coral Ridge or the Galleria
- Get to Commercial Boulevard (State Road 870). From I-95, take Exit 32 (Commercial Boulevard); from the beach side you can also pick it up at Federal Highway.
- Go west on Commercial Boulevard for about 6 to 7 miles from I-95, past Powerline Road, State Road 7 and Rock Island Road, to University Drive.
- Turn right (north) on University Drive. The office at 6510 N University Dr is about 1.4 miles ahead, just south of McNab Road, with parking at the door.
From downtown that is about 13 miles, about 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Commercial Boulevard is a busy road with many signals, and I-95 slows at rush hour.
From the airport, the port or south Fort Lauderdale: Florida's Turnpike
- Take I-595 west to Florida's Turnpike north, and exit at Exit 62, Commercial Boulevard. The Turnpike is tolled.
- Go west on Commercial Boulevard about 2.7 miles to University Drive, then turn right (north) and go about 1.4 miles.
From Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport that is roughly 17 miles, about 25 to 35 minutes depending on traffic.
From north Fort Lauderdale: Imperial Point and the Cypress Creek area
This is the shortest trip from the city. From I-95 at Cypress Creek Road, take Cypress Creek Road west, then follow McNab Road west to University Drive and turn left (south). The office is less than half a mile past the corner. It is roughly 8 miles, about 15 to 25 minutes depending on traffic, and your map app will show the exact turns where Cypress Creek Road joins McNab Road.
We serve patients across Fort Lauderdale, including the 33304, 33305, 33306, 33308, 33309 and 33311 ZIP codes, along with the rest of Broward County. The office is at 6510 N University Dr, Tamarac, FL 33321, with parking at the door.
Costs and Insurance
We work with most major PPO plans and check your benefits before treatment, so you know what your plan covers before you decide. Where we are out of network we can usually still file the claim so you receive your benefit.
If you are paying yourself, monthly financing through CareCredit, Sunbit, Cherry or Alphaeon can spread the cost of treatment, subject to approval. A written cost for each step, after your exam, means you can compare us with a closer office before you commit to the drive.
The details are on our financing and insurance page, and current promotions are on the offers page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the drive from Fort Lauderdale really worth it?
For a routine cleaning, usually not: there are good dentists close to you. It makes more sense for a larger plan, such as implants, veneers or Invisalign, when you want a full exam, a written plan and a second opinion, or when your day already takes you toward Tamarac, Sunrise or Lauderhill. The $65 first visit for new patients with healthy gums is a low-cost way to find out.
What is the fastest route from Fort Lauderdale?
It depends on where you start. From downtown and the east side, Commercial Boulevard west to University Drive is the simplest route: about 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. From the airport or south Fort Lauderdale, the Turnpike north to Exit 62 and then Commercial Boulevard west is usually faster, with a toll. From Imperial Point and Cypress Creek Road, going west on Cypress Creek Road and McNab Road is the shortest.
How do I keep the number of trips down?
Tell us when you book that you are coming from Fort Lauderdale. After your first exam you get a written plan with the cost of each step, and where treatment can be consolidated into fewer appointments we will do that. We will also tell you honestly which visits are needed and which can wait, so you do not make a trip you do not need.
Can I get a same-day appointment for pain if I am driving in from Fort Lauderdale?
Often, but call before you leave. We hold same-day appointments five days a week for urgent problems, and a call at (954) 322-3865 early in the day lets us tell you honestly whether you need to be seen today and when to arrive. If you have swelling that spreads to your face or neck, or trouble breathing or swallowing, go to an emergency room instead.
Do you have weekend or evening hours?
No. We are open Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and closed on Saturday and Sunday. If you are commuting, an 8:00 AM appointment or a midday slot is the easiest to plan around. Call (954) 322-3865 and ask for the earliest opening that suits your commute.
If I choose sedation, how should I plan the trip?
Ask when you book. Some forms of sedation mean you should not drive afterward, so it is worth arranging a ride before the day, and that matters more on a longer trip from Fort Lauderdale. Our page on sedation dentistry explains the options.
